ALL THAT GLITTERS

Polesden Lacey was the party house of Edwardian socialite Margaret Greville. For Christmas 2019 NEON were commissioned by the property to radically rethink the way the house is experienced in a way that would delight, inspire and surprise its visitors. NEON delivered three installations throughout the house, each inspired by an aspect of Mrs Greville’s much admired jewellery collection. Objects that the viewer is intimately familiar with - diamonds, silver and pearls are presented in a bold and new way. Each intervention was accompanied by a bespoke soundtrack to further elevate the experience.

The Main Hall

A dramatically oversized gemstone fills the main hall as you enter the house. The form floats magically in midair rotating slowly. The gemstones reflective surface casts a swirling golden light onto every surface of the of the room.

The Saloon

A luminous landscape of 100 pearls fills the Saloon - taking the most decadent room in the house to the next level! Blue and red light bulbs in all of the light fittings further transform the space.

The Billiard Room

In the Billiard Room a cloud of spinning silver geometric forms inspired by the delicacy and craftsmanship in the jewellery that Mrs Greville used to wear hang from the ceiling. Up-lighting is used to fill the walls and ceiling of the space with a dramatic series of shadows.
