TAVASTIA AUSTRALIS

Status : Concept

Tavastia Australis is a kinetic sculpture consisting of thousands of hanging flower petals and a structure covered with a reflective material. It was designed for a new hospital in Etelä-Häme, Finland. The colours and shapes of the petals are based on the flowers found in the Etelä-Häme region (Tavastia Australis).

Flowers are a significant part of various meaningful moments in life. They are used as a form of nonverbal communication. In this proposal, the flowers float calmly in the air. Time has stopped, there is only this moment. The petals in the work can be part of a happy festive moment, they can offer comfort in sadness or a feeling of hope.
